Marathon Kids program overview

Learn how to set up your club, track activity, and help participants work toward shared and individual goals.

Written by Stefanie Ediger

For coaches and educators.

Marathon Kids helps you organize opportunities for kids to move, set goals, track progress, and celebrate effort. Participants can run, walk, play, or push and roll at their own pace.

How it works

  1. Set your season dates and a club mileage goal.

  2. Add your participants and organize them into classes.

  3. Print participant ID cards with their individual QR codes.

  4. Use the mobile scanner app to record laps or minute-based activities, or enter activity manually in the web account.

  5. Review progress in the Impact Report and use Reports to share results.

  6. Celebrate individual effort and progress toward the club’s goal.

What you can track

Participant miles contribute to class, grade, and club totals. Use this information to help each participant see how their effort contributes to the group.

Reports let you review activity for selected dates and groups. The Resource Library provides lessons, games, activities, and printable tools to support your program.

Choose where your program fits

You can use Marathon Kids during PE, before or after school, at recess, in classroom activity breaks, or at a running event. Use tracks and activities to organize different parts of your program within the club.

Parents can follow their child’s progress. At-home submissions are available for Hybrid Club and Virtual Club programs and require coach approval. See club types.

Build a consistent routine

  • Explain the activity and scanning routine before you begin.

  • Set clear expectations and give specific, positive feedback.

  • Share progress regularly and recognize effort at every ability level.

  • Model participation and keep celebrations simple.
