One of the pillars of the Marathon Kids program is Goal Setting!

You must set a club mileage goal every season to help teach the importance of goal setting.

Setting a goal will help to:

  • Build a community around physical activity

  • Make every participant feel included

  • Create a team atmosphere

  • Drive excitement and motivation

Where do I Set the Club Goal?

Initially, when you create your Marathon Kids Season you are asked to set a club goal with an estimated number of participants.

The goal can be edited at any time during your season.

  1. Go to the Club Detail tab

  2. Then Club Info tab

  3. Click in the Club Mileage Goal text box

    1. Review and set the fields to help you recalculate the goal.

  4. Select SET as CLUB MILEAGE GOAL button

  5. Don't forget to click SAVE

How do I set the Club Goal?

Our goal calculator makes this super easy to do!

You can recalculate the goal at any time during your season.

Learn how to edit your goal here.

The Goal Calculator needs you to review and give input on a few fields:

Weeks of your season

This is based on the Start and End Date you set for your season.

  • You can edit the number of weeks to account for holidays during your season by using the arrow inside the text box.

Number of participants

Prior to adding participants to your account, estimate the number of kids who will participate.

  • You can edit this later once you officially roster your participants.

Average mile per participant weekly

Estimate on average, the number of miles participants will complete each week.

  • Some participants will do more and others will do less. This is just an average or estimate.

  • You can edit this at any time during your season.

Club Mileage Goal

Club Mileage Goal populates using this formula:

  • Number of participants x number of estimated miles per week = _______ x number of weeks in a season.

    • ie. 500 participants x 1 mile = 500 x 20 weeks = 10,000 club goal

  • You can adjust your mileage goal using the arrows in the text box.

Tips for Goal Setting

  1. Set the Club Goal at the beginning of the season.

    1. Adjust the goal during your season based on the number of your participants.

    2. Goals sometimes need to be adjusted if you projected too high or when you crush the goal before the season ends.

  2. Educate your participants about the goal.

    1. Use our first three lessons to teach participants how they play a role in the Club Goal.

    2. Every participant contributes to the goal as well as their individual goal and class and grade level mileage totals.

    3. Focus on short-term goals.

      1. Your goal may be a really big number and hard for kids to fathom.

      2. Break your goal into smaller short-term goals to teach kids the importance of making a plan when you set a goal.

  3. Display Goals and Data

    1. Set a cadence to keep participants updated on club goals and their personal data.

    2. Use these printables to help you track goals and miles.

    3. Identify space to display the data like a bulletin board.
