Student talking points to share with parents

Use these short scripts to help students explain Marathon Kids and share their progress with families.

Written by Stefanie Ediger

For coaches and educators.

Choose a script below, fill in the blanks, and practice it with students or send it home. Adjust the wording to match the activities your club tracks.

Script 1: our goals

“This year, we are tracking our activity with Marathon Kids. Our club is working toward ______ miles by ______. My own goal is ______ miles. We build toward our goals a little at a time!”

Script 2: today’s progress

“Today, I completed ______ laps at running club. My ID card helps my coach record my laps. Our club is working together to reach ______ miles. My favorite part is ______.”

Script 3: celebrate our club

“Our club has completed ______ miles so far! I have completed ______ miles. My coach shares our progress so we can celebrate what we accomplish together.”

Help students share their dashboard

If you give a student a copy of their ID card, they can use it with their family to view progress:

  1. Select Participant Dashboard.

  2. Scan the participant ID card to open the dashboard.

Explain at-home miles

Before inviting families to submit miles, check your club type. Parents in Hybrid Club and Virtual Club programs can submit miles from home for coach approval. Parents in an In-Person Club can follow progress but cannot submit at-home miles.
